World Hepatitis Alliance
I Can’t Wait: storytelling films
Together, we can make it happen
As part of our ongoing work with World Hepatitis Alliance, we created, planned and produced three short films to support the Hep Can't Wait campaign to advocate for greater hepatitis awareness.
We carefully worked in partnership with three individuals living with hepatitis, to enable each of them to share their own real life experience and inspiring story.
David, Shaibu and Shabana are not defined by their hepatitis – so we introduce our storytellers from where they are now – and the fulfilling lives they lead.
David
David is based in Michigan, and we worked collaboratively with him throughout the whole process of making this film. We outlined a structure for the film and worked with David to create a monologue that told his story in his own words. We incorporated videos from David’s own skating footage, as well as David filming fresh footage and recording his own voiceover, in the comfort of his home.
David’s story of his life before and after hepatitis diagnosis is difficult and powerful, but ultimately one filled with optimism for the future.
Shaibu
Red Stone had many conversations with Shaibu to form a script and structure for the film that he was happy with. To film Shaibu, we liaised with local videographers on the ground in Tanzania, providing them with comprehensive direction and moodboards to work from. This footage was supplemented with content from Shaibu’s prolific hepatitis advocacy work from his social media.
Shaibu’s story is one of tragedy, stigmatisation and the hopeful struggle for better understanding.
Shabana
After working on the script and shoot plan with Shabana, Red Stone filmed and recorded on location with her in Yorkshire. We filmed at several locations to show the enterprising and busy life Shabana leads.
Shabana tells her story of late diagnosis due to stigma, breaking the taboo and finding her purpose in raising awareness of hepatitis within the British South Asian community.
We can’t wait for a world without hepatitis
Putting the voices of people and communities impacted by hepatitis front and centre helps illustrate the struggles, the progress made and the work left to do. And why it is so necessary to now eliminate hepatitis for good.
